SUMMARY:RDS Movie-Night: Blade Runner (1982)
DESCRIPTION:In this second edition\, we'll be watching Ridley Scott's cult
classic Blade Runner. Set in an imagined dystopian Los Angeles in the far
distant year 2019\, Rick Deckard (Harrison Ford)\, a former "blade runner"
is tasked with hunting down and "retiring" rogue replicants - bio-enginee
red humanoid androids that are almost indistinguishable from real humans.
The film digs into the blurring of lines between artificial intelligence (
AI) and humanity\, the ethical questions around “ownership” of an arti
ficial consciousness\, and the central question of “can machines feel?
”.\\r\\nIn a world where AI is advancing at break-neck-speed\, and more
and more people are seeking AI companions\, the questions thrown up by thi
s film are more relevant than ever.\\r\\nRegistration is free of charge. T
here will be an opportunity for informal discussion of the film at a netwo
rking apero after the viewing.\\r\\nPlease note\, the film will be shown i
n English with German subtitles. \\r\\nTickets are now sold out\, though
individual tickets may become available from time to time. Please check th
